Diabetic Charcot Foot Surgery
Diabetic Charcot foot reconstruction is a very specialized procedure that requires significant commitment both from the patient as well as from the surgeon. There are many different options available for the surgical correction of this devastating disease process. A very long period of no weight bearing is mandated in order to achieve a higher success rate with this surgery. Typically it is expected that a period of 4 months of no weight bearing followed by another 2 months of gradual weight bearing in a walking boot is the post-operative regimen. Aggressive wound care also may be needed. Although great post-operative results are usually attained, a high recurrence rate is also seen. The pictures below show the pre-operative and post-operative outcomes.
