Ankle Fracture Surgery
Surgical correction of painful ankle fracture using plate and screws (traditional method). Ankle fractures have a distinct pattern when they occur and each has a specific surgical approach. Dr. Donate will discuss them with you and decide which is best for you. Typically the post-operative period requires 6-8 weeks of no weight bearing followed by 1-2 week period of gradual to full weight bearing in a walking boot. Regular weight bearing is usually expected at 3 months although swelling can last much longer than that. The pictures below show pre-operative X-rays of a typical fracture and post-operative outcomes.
